NHS Varsity Loses a Tough Game to Weymouth

Varsity vs Weymouth HS on 10/1/2010 7:00:00 PM

Last Friday, on a wet and rainy night, the 3-0 Needham Rockets traveled to the soggy turf at Mullen field to play the 3-0 Weymouth Wildcats in a key Bay State Carey match up.

It was a tough first quarter for the Rockets as the Wildcats scored almost immediately after recovering a fumble on the 2nd play of the game and then scoring on the very next play.  Things got worse for Needham as Captain Kevin Brennan was lost for the night with a back injury and Weymouth was able to punch it in again before the first quarter was over.

Kudos to the Rocket defense as they were able to play Weymouth scoreless in the second and third quarters. The defensive line led by Max Sharphorst, Captain Robbie Timmerman, Joe Coffey and Phil Comma along with Captains Will Stemberg and Sam Nickels were able to hold off the talented Colarusso brothers in these two quarters and keep Needham in the game.

However, by the fourth quarter the levy broke and Weymouth was able to put up 16 additional unanswered points.

A shout out to Drew Burnett who came off the bench after only being activated on Monday to take over the offense under difficult circumstances.

Next up Natick on Friday at 7PM in Natick.
